Dr. Oz is the Founder and Chairman of HealthCorps®, a non-profit organization that pays a stipend to recent college graduates to spend two years in high schools mentoring students about health, nutrition, and fitness.
HealthCorps empowers young adults to become educated consumers and to make shifts in behavior that can be measured by changes in rates of obesity and physical fitness as well as mental well-being and self esteem.
This is why HealthCorps and Zumba are a perfect match. Zumba provides these high-risk teens a safe and healthy way to "party"! Zumba takes the most popular music rhythms such as Reggaeton from their iPod's and car stereos into a healthy environment where the students can release energy in a positive, fitness-oriented manner.
In April, Zumba attended the HealthCorps Gala, a charity event for New York City to promote HealthCorps' purpose and give recognition to all those who have changed their lives through this remarkable program during the past year.
This amazing event was attended by ZIN members Tanya Beardsley and Samuel Salazar, who represented our Zumba spirit and energy.
On May 31st, a team of ZIN members performed at the NYC Health Fair for HealthCorps in the five boroughs of NYC: Eduardo Fajardo in Manhattan, Nathan Jefferson in the Bronx, Viviana Vivar in Queens, Vasila Penna in Brooklyn, and Danielle Ippolito in Staten Island.
Each one of these ZIN members brought a small team with them to represent the Zumba vibe, which proved to be a great success as they even got Dr. Oz to Zumba!

"Latin Workout Benefits Cancer Cause"
Zumba Fitness... the aerobics workout with a Latin flavor... drew nearly 1,000 enthusiasts to the Deauville Beach Resort last weekend for Zumbathon...an interactive fundraiser that will benefit breast cancer survivors.

As hundreds of participants milled around trying to find a place on the packed dance floor, Alberto ''Beto'' Perez waited outside the Deauville Beach Resort ballroom on a recent Sunday to make his entrance.
Energy levels rose as a combination of hip-hop, reggaeton and Latin music thumped from the ballroom. The crowd -- from teens in tank tops to seniors in sweat suits -- had come to be a part of Zumbathon, a fundraiser that featured the energetic, Latin-flavored aerobics workout called Zumba.
Suddenly the music and talking stopped when Tanya Beardsley, a Zumba master trainer, grabbed everyone's attention. Perez, the Colombian-born fitness instructor who created Zumba was about to enter the room.
Accompanied by an entourage of Zumba instructors, Perez burst through the ballroom doors, made his way to the stage and kicked off one hour of nonstop Zumba, a frenzied workout that combines several types of popular music beats.
The Zumbathon, held Oct. 29, was sponsored by Zumba Fitness. The company, which has offices in Northeast Miami-Dade, offers training sessions for instructors throughout the United States and internationally.
''It has always been a dream of mine to be able to have all my students and instructors together for one big master class,'' said Perez, ecstatic with the turnout of the 950 participants at the Deauville, 6701 Collins Ave.
''There was a lot of positive energy in the room,'' said Teri Arvesu, 51, who has been taking Zumba for three years at Coral Gables and South Miami gyms. ``It was awesome to see that many people come together for such a good cause. It was much nicer and a more fun way to raise money than doing a walkathon.''
The cause is the Quality of Life Fund, a national organization at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston that helps men and women living with breast cancer. Participants paid a $25 entry fee, which will result in a check of more than $20,000 for the fund, Perez said.
''Breast cancer is something that has touched the lives of so many of my students and co-workers who have been with me along the way,'' he said.
In the throng of Zumba enthusiasts was Marion Marker, 78, who has been practicing Zumba for four months at the Jewish Community Center in Aventura. Marker, along with eight other members from her Zumba for Seniors class, held their own during the frenzied workout.
''Zumba is contagious,'' Marker said. ``I might not be able to do the turns like the younger people, but my hair is wet every time I leave, and I have so much fun.''

First I had seen or heard of it when I filmed this at The Tampa Bay Linedance Classic in November 2006. It is COOL! Junior Willis, Guyton Mundy & his Pop Shop kids are loving it.
